'Don't use your brain when your body makes the splash'

What's up bitches? Ahem...

I'm working on a 2 page spread for XEROGRAFIX II, a screenprinted arts newspaper made by Vicky Samuel ( I was in issue one with my Jay Z strip that I've used in a few things ( unprolific? Moi...?). The theme of this issue is the UK, so my comic is based on the controversial official investigation into Bloody Sunday which was released last year after a 10 year investigation http://www.bloody-sunday-inquiry.org/following the initial Widgery 'whitewash'. The incident which took place in 1972 began with a civil rights protest in Londonderry ( 'Derry' to nationalists) which ended in riots and then disaster and the loss of 13 civilian lives ( and one death after the shooting, possibly as a result of injuries received on the day) as a result of army fire.

I thought this would be an appropriate topic following the recent protests in London. I didn't actually attending the protest recently, but was working on Oxford Street at the time. Just a reminder that it's all fun and games till someone gets hurt. Also, as I'm a bit of a plastic paddy,- my parents are from Nor'n Ireland but I was raised in England, this topic is pretty important to me.

Completing the pictures is a bit of a bitch due to detail, having finally condensed the events of the day got THAT to sort out. But ahhhhweeelll only like, 12 frames to go...

Yeah I reckon I'll be going the old London Zine Symposium next weekend also http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=103361703075789 should be a larf and that. Hey isn't it sunny(?) I told my housemate I'd help with his animation http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mikesenior/tomsenior/index.swf, need to get on it. Seriously, don't know how he has the patience to do that all day. I'm learning photoshop off Cliff my other housemate as well. I realise I should know how to use it after a whole load of art education but I always got other people to do it for me hahaha...ha. Anyway I'll give him props coz I know he'd like that. Check out the beyonce remix on his site in particular http://www.myspace.com/recsundme http://cliffordsage.co.uk/ there ya go.

xoxoxo fuck you

'I got love from London to Leeds'- Kano

Hello hello,

So I went to Leeds yesterday ( 5 in the morn) for the 2nd Leeds Alternative Comics Fair organised by Gareth Brookes http://www.appallingnonsense.co.uk/ and Steve Tillotson ( http://www.banalpig.com/blog/). I didn't get a new comic printed in time for various reasons, so I just had a poor old 'contagious 1 and 2' , photocopied at Rymans, who didn't go down very well at all! I'm pretty new to this game and I felt quite shy around the shinier publications and drank my pints too quickly as a result and did a hard sell- har. Then I zoned out a bit...

Hope I wasn't TOOO whiney, I didn't even look around properly, felt a bit like a fish out of water. BUT I did meet some awesome people- check out these http://www.reetcomic.co.uk/- awesome illustrations http://magicbeanscomics.blogspot.com/ - haha, 'Space Dracula' http://www.jackfallows.com/( haven't read this yet, nice man) and others who i don't have web addresses for. Everybody was SO NICE :) and I got some helpful tips. Got to keep on keeping on yo. Got some nooo idearss.

Anyway, it was a reet good event so thanks to Gareth and Steve and sorry for being odd.

RULES

1. Don't draw famous people unless you're really really good at drawing.
2. Have an exciting life so you can draw inspiration from it. This is unlikely to happen.
3. Don't do autobiographical comics as they are mostly shit.
4. Don't be a girl.
5. Don't be a young girl.
6.Don't talk about how hard it is being a girl if you must insist on being a girl. Or else use it as a novelty.
7. Don't be from the UK. Be from 'the states' or Canada.
8. Don't admit that you dislike superhero comics.
9. Don't tell your job you can't come in extra as you're busy 'working on your self published comics'.
10. Don't bother.
